The Must-Have Criteria
To keep your Cannas happy, look for a location that checks these boxes:
- Full sun: We’re talking as much direct sunlight as possible.
- Sheltered from the wind: Those big, lush leaves can act like sails, so a calm spot is best.
- Rich, fertile soil: These plants are heavy feeders and love nutrient-dense ground.
Give Them Some Elbow Room
If you want your Cannas to truly thrive, don’t crowd them! They need plenty of space to spread their roots and soak up the sun. Depending on which variety you’re planting, make sure to leave about 12 to 24 inches of space between each plant (and between them and their neighbors).
